Shikara Shahrin is a third-culture kid turned international teacher. She comes from three generations of educators, having family members who were school principals, college professors, and PreK to middle school teachers. Shikara graduated high school from the American International School of Cape Town, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Hawaii. She previously worked in Malaysia (5th Grade), Eritrea (3rd and 4th Grade), and Myanmar (4th Grade). Kazakhstan is her fourth teaching post and twelfth host country. Shikara’s favorite quote, “The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts,” is by C.S. Lewis.
